The Mairie de Monaco unveils the autumn events in the name of Sustainability.

Updated: Sep 20

The Principality of Monaco has long demonstrated a constant and comprehensive commitment, at multiple levels of governance. The Monaco City Hall, the closest administrative body to the territorial communities, highlights environmental values through local initiatives by aligning with the policies of the Prince’s Government.

On these premises, the Municipality proposes a varied program of events throughout

September 2025, aimed at increasing the ecological awareness of citizens, residents and visitors.

Each initiative will be conceived to promote recycling, reusing and reducing waste production while educing greenhouse gas emissions through concrete commitments in the footsteps of the National Pact for Energy Transition, unveiled in Monaco in 2018 by the Mission for Energy Transition, governmental hub to involve its residents, businesses, and institutions in achieving the Principality's climate goals

The Municipal Administration, led by Georges Marsan, Mayor of Monaco, is being constantly committed in pursuing a series of well-predicted objectives, notably:

  • Fight against climate change: addressed to allow public buildings to cut their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, taking action through the Carbon Footprint Assessment, started in 2024 to better identify and reduce its emissions;

  • Energy efficiency: with the aim to improve the energy footprint of municipal buildings through Green Tech devices capable to periodically manage consumption trends

  • Waste Management and Circular Economy: in order to further implement waste collection of specific products (e.g.: paper, cardboard, batteries, etc.) while launching targeted events to share best practices and foster sustainable behaviour;

  • Preservation of Nature and Green Spaces: aiming at managing public green spaces sustainably, with an increasing reduction of chemical treatments in favour of organic solutions, together with specific urban forestation plan;

  • Sustainable Consumption and Awareness: directed to make the local catering proposal more respectful of the environment and health, with the reduction of food waste (e.g.: "My Responsible Restaurant" eco-label) and the limitation of the use of cigarettes, even in open spaces;

  • Promotion of Sustainable Practices: such as the use of wood and paper certified as coming from sustainably managed forests, with attention to recycling.

On Saturday the 20th September 2025, the Mairie de Monaco is going to organise a big urban march intended to collect human waste spread on the streets and gardens of Monaco. The event, in partnership with  Société Monégasque d’Assainissement - SMA - (Monegasque Sanitation Company), has become an annual event that sees an ever-increasing participation, being part of the World Clean Up Day. At 9:30 a.m., all participants will be given by SMA gloves and trash bags, at the starting point at La Condamine Market. In this year's edition, two alternative routes will be proposed based on the degree of difficulty and both will end at 11:00 a.m. at Princesse Antoinette Park.

On Saturday the 27th September 2025, the Braderie de la Mairie de Monaco (Monaco City Hall Street Fair) will animate the Princesse Antoinette Park from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the aim to fight against all forms of waste. The Municipal Administration allows Monegasque citizens and residents to book a free stand where to sell items (e.g.: clothing, books, toys, video games, accessories, etc...) which can thus have a second life, instead of becoming useless waste. The initiative, developed in a friendly environment, includes a special corner, named "Vide-Chambre" (Clearing the Room), addressed to junior attendants and students, encouraged to empty their rooms of things they no longer use, in view of the start of the new school year. ***
