Monaco stood out at UN for the role of Sport as Peace and Sustainability factor.

Sport values are increasingly considered as crucial drivers for social development, health and education, empowerment, environmental awareness, climate action in the footsteps of United Nations Agenda 2030. Along this line, there are a succession of projects to enhance Sport ability to foster inclusion, gender equity, combating poverty and delinquency.
On the occasion of the recent debate about Sport for peace and sustainable development at the United Nations in New York. Monaco reaffirmed its commitment to achieve concrete actions, as reaffirmed by Daphné Le Son, First Counsellor and Permanent Representative Deputy of Monaco to the United Nations.
Not by chance, Monaco has been appointed 2025 World Capital of Sport to promote sporting positive impact while offering locals and international visitors high-level facilities to encourage well-being.

In this context, Monaco and Qatar co-organised a meeting of the Group of Friends of Sport for Sustainable Development, in the presence of Kirsty Coventry, new President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Giovanni Malagò, President of Milan Cortina 2026 Organising Committee. The meeting aimed at highlighting the role of sport in social cohesion and gender equality towards a more sustainable future.
Daphné Le Son, recalling the role of Monaco as World Capital of Sport 2025 praised the engagement of the next Winter Milan-Cortina Olympics according to the Monaco's model. The Olympic organisation, in fact, wanted to implement a holistic and comprehensive approach which combines protection of natural ecosystems with reduction of greenhouse gases, promotion of circular economy, recycling, social and professional accessibility, while inspiring next generations and sustainable tourism.
The UN mission addressed to build up a peaceful and better world through Sport practice and its ethical values within a safe and inclusive environment, stressing the importance of keeping sporting values in the UN Agenda to advance sustainable development, education, and social cohesion. ***
