Culture and artistic creation as a strategic vector of strategic Sustainability Policies and Diplomacy, is all this possible? A recent exclusive event in Monaco demonstrated that uniting highly professional figures and eco-committed artists can lead to significant results. "The Ocean Meets Art" was held at the iconic Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo on Saturday the 11th October 2025 by the will of Blue & Sport Alliance - BSA - under the high patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Monaco, represented by the Ambassador, H.E. Manuela Ruosi, and sponsored by Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (PA2F), represented by Raphaël Ghiandai, Administrative and Financial Director at PA2F, the Istituto Idrografico della Marina (Italian Hydrography Institute) and the MAMA Shipping Antarctica Mission.
Isidoro Miele, Founder and President of Blue & Sport Alliance Monaco, made his many years of executive managerial experience available to create in the Principality a cutting edge body aimed at raising eco-awareness about key Sustainability issues, notably climate change and ocean conservation, with special regard to Polar Regions and soon the Mediterranea Sea. His core mission is to organise annually topical events and initiatives where to combine Scientific Research and Development, Entrepreneurship, Governance, Diplomacy, Philanthropy and other related issues, according to the multidisciplinary approach typical of Sustainable Development.

The rendezvous embodied a series of technical keynotes and roundtables to tackle ocean conservation and understanding through advanced hydrographic mapping devices as crucial drivers towards an increasingly in-depth knowledge of the oceans to face an increasing human exploitation of natural resources, food stocks and medicinal compounds besides the use of sea routes for trade, tourism and geopolitical security operations.
The Rear Admiral Luigi Sinapi, Director of the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO), highlighted the crucial role of the artistic creativity to federate communities around the ocean cause while moderating a meaningful scientific debate on the delicate situation of Mediterranean ecosystems affected by climate change, taking advantage of the particular attention dedicated to the topic in the Principality of Monaco on the impulse of the Sovereign Prince and the Gouvernement Princier. Keeping the Mediterranean Basin resilient is vital for all living ecosystems underpinning social, economic and political stability. The mobilisation of both civil society and decision makers is therefore prior to guarantee a future for the Mediterranean Sea as reaffirmed by Tom Woods, Founder and President of the NGO Help Save The Med.
Marcello Pica, CEO of Mama Shipping, Vice-President of the Monegasque Chamber of Shipping, and member of BSA’s board, underlined the importance of gathering the scientific, institutional and diplomatic world in promoting expeditions to the Polar regions supported by the highest sustainable values in ocean management.
Thanks to his support, together with the philanthropist Mikhail Nefedov and the Prince Albert II Foundation, the Italian ocean icebreaker, named "Laura Bassi", is on missions in the Antarctic and Arctic regions to collect scientific and technical data of primary importance. Moreover, based on an agreement reached in October 2024 between Olivier Wenden, vice-President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Admiral Massimiliano Nannini for the Italian Hydrographic Institute, selected young researchers will experience field research studies onboard the equipped vessel through Polar Regions. Thus, they will contribute concretely in the fight against the loss of bio-diversity, the increase in sea levels and temperatures, which are four times more impactful at the Poles.

The meeting developed through various stages. A first round table session, named "Understanding the Ocean: Fragility and Hope", moderated by Rear Admiral Luigi Sinapi, collecting feedbacks by Professor Giorgio Budillon; Dr Maylis Salivas; Professor Roberta Ivaldi and Marcello Pica. A second immersive and emotional session, where to contemplate the fragile beauty of ocean biodiversity entitled "The Ocean Through Art - Aesthetic Reflections and Emotional Depth", moderated by the Rear Admiral Giosuè Allegrini to give voice to Concetta De Pasquale, fond of Abstractionism; Marilena Sassi, Performance Artist; Alessandra Angelini, fond of Visual Narrative; Dominik Drygas, Artist and Collagist; and Vladana Vujosevic, Environmental Artist. The Artistis had the chance to introduce their creations to the selected audience within a dedicated showroom.
"The Ocean Meets Art" offered then a privileged stage where to set sail towards a new regenerative social and economic model grounded on an empathic exchange of ideas among experts of various expertise in order to build up an environmentally friendly future through a fruitful peer-review approach. ***
