All the preparations are almost ready to welcome, respectively in Monaco and Nice, the Blue Economy and Finance Forum, on the 7th and the 8th June 2025, and the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), that will be held from the 9th to the 13th June 2025. On the 14th April 2015, a targeted meeting was held at the Maison Française in Washington DC to set the foundations to this unique international double event.
The "Blue Talk, getting ready for the third UN Ocean conference" allowed the attendants to debate on a series of key issues in view of the two topical meetings.
Senator Sheldom Whitehouse, co-founder of "Senate Ocean Caucus", highlighted the importance played by international cooperation to boost ocean conservation and the Blue Economy. H.E. Maguy Maccario Doyle, Monaco's Ambassador to the United States and Canada, pointed out Monaco's engagement in the safeguarding of marine ecosystems through a comprehensive and collective action plan, able to involve both the private and the public sectors.

In particular, the Monegasque Diplomate referred to a couple of meaningful initiatives carried out by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Notably, the ReOcean Fund, a private equity tool at the service of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) N0. 14 (Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development) addressed to support innovative companies committed to nature regeneration, and the Blue Economy Index, a new financial item to drive investments towards ocean-engaged companies. The core mission is to preserve ocean biodiversity while fighting against plastic marine litter.
The Sovereign Prince of Monaco intervened remotely reaffirming His willingness to make both events prior drivers to the ocean cause. A series of roundtables gathered a group a Experts in the field of Maritime Law, Conservationists and Representatives from the World Bank to envisage the future of Blue Economy and Ocean Governance. ***

EPISODE 7: What does Urban Functional Biodiversity refer to?
How do you feel when you come into contact with the green spaces of your city? Maybe more relaxed, regenerated and energetic! it is not by chance. #Urban Functional #Biodiversity is about various natural #species and their specific functional traits (e.g., nitrogen fixation, pollination, water retention) that maintain #ecosystems and provide essential #services in heavily populated areas. Boosting #climate regulation, favouring flood #control, reducing #pollution, providing recreational spaces and improving human #wellbeing, resilience and health are some of the most significant #benefits they generate.
Being inspired by #Nature’s balance helps #architects, #designers and urban #planners to select vegetation able to optimises specific ecological functions, such as #water infiltration or biodiversity support. Integrating interconnected #green spaces (e.g.: parks, green roofs) and #blue spaces (ponds, wetlands) promotes #habitat connectivity and strengthens urban biodiversity. Moreover, engaging local residents and stakeholders in the planning and management of urban nature, encourages a shared vision of the development of densely inhabited areas, boosting mental and physical health.
Main Strategies for Enhancing Urban Functional Biodiversity are:
· Biodiversity-Sensitive Design]: that is integrating native, multi-functional plant species into urban design, including vertical gardens and green roofs.
· Ecological Restoration: that is actively restoring urban green and blue spaces to enhance habitat diversity and ecological function.
· Inclusive Governance: that is engaging local residents and stakeholders in the planning and management of urban nature.
