The Roseraie Princesse Grace (Princess Grace Rose Garden) has recently celebrated its 40th anniversary in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and H.R.H. Princess of Hanover and the main authorities from the Prince's Government and the City Hall.
To praise this special commemoration, the International Jury of the most popular annual Rose Competition at its seventh edition focused on hybridisation and breeding of new roses. The rose JEAN CARLES ® EVEpiweet by Eve - Rateau, was awarded the prestigious prize, the Piaget Rose Trophy, offered by the Manufacture Piaget, together with the Coupe du Parfum, given by the Mairie de Monaco (Monaco City Hall). The rose MADAME® EVEvilady by Eve - Rateau got the Coup de Coeur (Favourite Prize) golden medal by the will of Amis de la Roseraie Princesse Grace (Friends of the Princess Grace Rose Garden).
Thanks to the support of Princess Grace Rose Garden and the Prince’s Government, the contest conquered the social network. The rose Romaneche la Montagne ® by Marie-Françoise Dorieux (No. 58) was the most voted on social media and was awarded the Public Award, collecting 1,000 votes.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover attended the event welcomed by Yves Piaget, President of the Association of Friends of the Rose Garden. A special tribute was paid to Princess Grace of Monaco, the inspiring Muse of this garden and H.S.H. Prince Rainier III of Monaco who conceived the creation of the whole district of Fontvieille.

The Closing Rose Competition Award Ceremony was a great feast with a set of creative stages (Mr One Teas piece of art and watercolour exhibition by Tony Szabo) leisure activities (treasure hunt, guided tour and music performances by Cantin d'a Roca and the Orchestra of the Carabiniers du Prince). A unique opportunity to contemplate the beauty of Nature. ***

EPISODE 7: What does Urban Functional Biodiversity refer to?
How do you feel when you come into contact with the green spaces of your city? Maybe more relaxed, regenerated and energetic! it is not by chance. #Urban Functional #Biodiversity is about various natural #species and their specific functional traits (e.g., nitrogen fixation, pollination, water retention) that maintain #ecosystems and provide essential #services in heavily populated areas. Boosting #climate regulation, favouring flood #control, reducing #pollution, providing recreational spaces and improving human #wellbeing, resilience and health are some of the most significant #benefits they generate.
Being inspired by #Nature’s balance helps #architects, #designers and urban #planners to select vegetation able to optimises specific ecological functions, such as #water infiltration or biodiversity support. Integrating interconnected #green spaces (e.g.: parks, green roofs) and #blue spaces (ponds, wetlands) promotes #habitat connectivity and strengthens urban biodiversity. Moreover, engaging local residents and stakeholders in the planning and management of urban nature, encourages a shared vision of the development of densely inhabited areas, boosting mental and physical health.
Main Strategies for Enhancing Urban Functional Biodiversity are:
· Biodiversity-Sensitive Design]: that is integrating native, multi-functional plant species into urban design, including vertical gardens and green roofs.
· Ecological Restoration: that is actively restoring urban green and blue spaces to enhance habitat diversity and ecological function.
· Inclusive Governance: that is engaging local residents and stakeholders in the planning and management of urban nature.
