Monaco Collecte is ready to land back in Monaco to reinforce the 3Rs paradigm to produce less waste.

Updated: Aug 24

Reducing significantly our environmental impact is possible and each of us can do a lot to limit the individual ecological footprint, that is the consequences that our activities have on the Planet and on its natural resources regeneration. Human waste is on the top list of the global environmental concerns. Besides the effective production, a relevant amount of no-longer-working devices accumulate in our homes. Notably, the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) that is rapidly bypassing 50 million tonnes (Source: Jain et al., 2023). Monaco Collecte, at its third edition, aims at raising awareness on the Reuse, Recycle and Reduce (3Rs) paradigm. The event will take place on the 16th and the 17th February 2024 at Port Hercules, and in various locations, by the will of Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA) and the Direction de l'Aménagement Urbain, in partnership with the Municipality of Monaco and Mission pour la Transition Énergétique.

Visitors are invited to bring to Monaco Collecte Village all the objects they no longer use like: clothes, toys, books, digital equipment and other domestic appliances. The participating associations will be happy to collect them in order to give a new life in the footsteps of the Circular Economy. Besides that, free animations, info points, workshops and other initiatives will accompany the audience to enhance the second life supply chain which allows a significant reduction of waste production. On the 16th February, in particular, a targeted session will be devoted to middle school students both in the morning (from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.) and in the afternoon (from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.).

This year's edition will include a series of manual workshops including decopatch on glass packaging, as well as the Escape Game, a leisure device dedicated to waste sorting, reduction and reuse, designed by Trizzy and by SMA, main actor in waste prevention and recycling. Atelier Street Art Customisation by Alberti Arts will encourage creativity to customise 'waste' in a fashion accessory while Atelier Recyclage en réalité virtuelle (Recycling in Augmented Reality Workshop) will plunge avatars in an engaging situational environment where separating waste collection makes a difference.

A dedicated action to promote the big unpacking (Le grand déballage) and the proper management of household waste in Monaco (Les déchets ménagers à Monaco) will push visitors to reflect on materials used in industrial packaging and the destination of the domestic waste we throw away. Moreover, on Friday the 16th February, an interactive conference & show on waste management and its impact on the biosphere will be performed at the Rainier III Auditorium by Monaco's high school students.

The 2024 edition of Monaco Collecte is definitely investing in citizens' engagement together with a fun, educational and informative storytelling. ***
