The Société Monégasque des Eaux SMEAUX, responsible for drinking water and wastewater treatment before discharge to the Mediterranean, is being promoting the education of new generations on the importance of preserving and managing the water resource, a source of life for living beings in the biosphere. In this framework, SMEAUX has recently distributed a set of briefcases with educational kits to the Centre de Loisirs Prince Albert II and CM2-course students at the École des Revoires, eco-engaged certified school. On the 6th November 2023, a school delegation led by some teachers attended an exclusive meeting with Céline Caron-Dagioni, Government Advisor – Minister of Environment and Urban Planning, Isabelle Bonnal, Commissioner General for the Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports, and Manuel Nardi, Director General at SMEAUX. "Water is life" was the keyword for all young participants who designed a jingle for the occasion.
A unique educational kit was introduced and given to students. "La découverte de l’eau" (The Discovery of Water) aims at offering a multidisciplinary and interactive experience path and publications which is spread over four levels : Water Cycle, Water Filtering, Flow of Water and Purification of Water before returning it to the natural environment.
Understanding, knowing, protecting and saving water is the goal of this interactive approach supported by the Gouvernement Princier and SMEAUX. Experiential learning is considered as one of the best way in line with the European Green Deal recently introduce by the European Commission. Young generation benefit from this innovative science-based approach, learning key notions will serve them to defend the water resource and positively influence society and policy makers. ***
