We are in a time of budgets and resolutions for the new year. The situation is far from calm at international level. The annual World Economic Forum Forum, which is about to begin in Davos (Switzerland), takes on greater significance than other years.
This meeting, in fact, gathers political, economic leaders (CEOs, bankers) and intellectuals to discuss pressing global challenges, from economics to technology, from health to the environment, with the aim of building up the future.
The Principality of Monaco will be actively involved in the high-level debate, promoting the Monaco Day in Davos, a full-day event that will be held at Web3 Hub Davos on the 21st January 2025 within the international Forum. This rendez-vous is designed to encourage interstate dialogue and collaboration to facilitate problem-solving, networking, and proactive discussions. Through a set of keynotes and panels, participants will try to find applicable solutions to design a more stable, open and sustainable future. Morevoer, the summit aims at creating a privileged platform addressed to individuals operating in international relations, policy-making, global business and neutral cooperation.

The Power of Constructive Neutrality, this is the theme chosen for the second edition of Monaco Day in Davos. This choice is not random showcasing the long-lasting Monegasque legacy in balancing interchange and cooperation among the State, Business and Civil society. This unique diplomatic form is becoming a piece of the global geopolitical puzzle, able to influence the European multilateral diplomacy.
All this comes ahead of a historic recognition: Monaco will assume the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, from May to November 2026.
Human rights, the Rule of Law, Sustainability, Sport, Child Protection, are just some of the topics that will be put on the agenda during the European mission. A great occasion for the Principality which is demonstrating how a small state in its territory can achieve high quality results.
Davos Monaco Hub is being seeking balanced and sustainable development as a result of a solid relational process, focused on three main axes: 1. mutual cooperation to reinforce relationships, strengthen trust, and foster mediation; 2. new economic models directed to reach strategic alliances and to enhance human capital; 3. global prosperity through regenerative economic paradigms, highly efficient technology, and substantial innovation.

The 2025 edition of Monaco Day in Davos drew attention on the capacity of the Principality in terms of sustainability and governance policies. In particular, the importance of developing clean energy sources was outlined, by creating synergies between the private and public sector. Circular Economy through reuse and regeneration was equally considered as a priority. Last but not least, the participants agreed on a urgent action to face the planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. with concrete action developed with the support of professionals increasingly prepared for a multidisciplinary approach where social sciences join STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics - the use of digital and hitech devices, including artificial intelligence (AI).
Monaco and its leading actors, notably the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, are strongly involved in creating a new regenerative economy and diplomacy, backed by philanthropy, positive lobbying and impact investments. The 2026 Monaco Day in Davos will represent a new step towards the realisation of this ambitious goal. ***

EPISODE 7: What does Urban Functional Biodiversity refer to?
How do you feel when you come into contact with the green spaces of your city? Maybe more relaxed, regenerated and energetic! it is not by chance. #Urban Functional #Biodiversity is about various natural #species and their specific functional traits (e.g., nitrogen fixation, pollination, water retention) that maintain #ecosystems and provide essential #services in heavily populated areas. Boosting #climate regulation, favouring flood #control, reducing #pollution, providing recreational spaces and improving human #wellbeing, resilience and health are some of the most significant #benefits they generate.
Being inspired by #Nature’s balance helps #architects, #designers and urban #planners to select vegetation able to optimises specific ecological functions, such as #water infiltration or biodiversity support. Integrating interconnected #green spaces (e.g.: parks, green roofs) and #blue spaces (ponds, wetlands) promotes #habitat connectivity and strengthens urban biodiversity. Moreover, engaging local residents and stakeholders in the planning and management of urban nature, encourages a shared vision of the development of densely inhabited areas, boosting mental and physical health.
Main Strategies for Enhancing Urban Functional Biodiversity are:
· Biodiversity-Sensitive Design]: that is integrating native, multi-functional plant species into urban design, including vertical gardens and green roofs.
· Ecological Restoration: that is actively restoring urban green and blue spaces to enhance habitat diversity and ecological function.
· Inclusive Governance: that is engaging local residents and stakeholders in the planning and management of urban nature.
