🔲 A joint side event to raise voice for Mediterranean habitats, within Our Ocean Conference in Athens.

📍 24th April 2024


With a view to pursuing marine conservation in the framework of Our Ocean Conference 

the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, together with WWF Greece, Greenpeace Greece and the Musée océanographique de Monaco, gathered in Athens to attend a side event named "Fostering the 30x30 Target to Enhance Marine Conservation in the Mediterranean".

Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (PA2F), stressed the urgent need to safeguard ecoystems and habitats. A target which is particularly important for the Prince's Foundation which has been supporting over 200 projects, with an investment of more than €26 million.

The meeting was also an opportunity to preserve the Pelagos Sanctuary, a pioneering cross-regional marine area dedicated to the protection of marine mammals, considered as primary indicators of biodiversity. Didier and Martine Primat Foundation, WWF Mediterranean, IUCN Mediterranean, MedPAN-network are some of the partners of the Pelagos Initiative.

🔲 Prince Albert II of Monaco alongside Monk Seal Alliance (MSA) and the Greek Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency.

On the occasion of Our Ocean Conference, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the technical event promoted by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in partnership with the Monk Seal Alliance (MSA) and the Greek Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA - Οργανισμός Φυσικού Περιβάλλοντος και Κλιματικής Αλλαγής-ΟΦΥΠΕΚΑ ). The side event, named "Bringing the Mediterranean monk seal back home: examples of holistic action for the conservation of an endangered mobile species", drew attention to the importance of preserving this threatened marine mammal through combined actions to achieve shared goals, including philanthropy.

Maria P. Papadopoulou (NECCA), Olivier Wenden (Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation), Puri Canals (MedPAN-network), and Panos Dendrinos (MOm) joined the event.

🔲 The Principality of Monaco even closer to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in the fight against climate change.

📍 17th April 2024


The Principality of Monaco has strengthened diplomatic relations with the Commonwealth of The Bahamas following up the signing of a joint mutual announcement by the two States' Representatives to the United Nations in New York, H.E. Stan Smith and H.E. Isabelle Picco. The partnership is significant considering that the tropical island, part of the Lucayen archipelago of the Caribbean (member of the United Nations since 1973), is particularly vulnerable to the extreme effects of climate change, notably exposed to hurricanes.

The interstate reaffirmed synergy will empower joint projects grounded on sustainable developmen, ocean conservation and the promotion of the highest values of sport.

🔲 Parking des Salines: Soft Mobility is more powerful in Monaco.

📍 15th April 2024


To facilitate soft mobility, the Parking des Salines was unveiled on the 15th Aprile 2024 in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, H.E. Pierre Dartout, Minister of State, Thomas Brezzo, President of the National Council of Monaco, Céline Caron-Dagioni, Government Advisor-Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urbanism and other distinguished guests. The new facility, located at the western entrance of the Principality connected to the Moyenne Conrniche, facing the Exotic Garden, can host 1,790 parking spaces distributed over 15 floors. It represents a further step towards a full intermodal transport to reach Monaco downtown and major events (notably Monaco E-Prix, Grand Prix Historique de Monaco, Grand Prix de Monaco and other Rallyes) in about 15 minutes either on foot, by bicycles thanks to Monabike service or using the new shuttles.

🔲 Environmental cooperation between the Principality of Monaco and North Africa is strengthened.

 📍12th April & 19th March 2024


On the 12th April and the 19th March 2024, Céline Caron-Dagioni, Government Advisor – Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urban Planning, and Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Government Advisor – Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, were present at a bilateral meeting on the 19th March and th 12th April 2024 with Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of Environment of Tunisia, and Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco. The high-profile meting was placed in the developent of the Article 6 of the Paris Climate Agreement, ratified in 2016 by the Principality of Monaco, which allowed Monaco to enter into voluntary interstate cooperation to achieve their respective national climate objectives.

Tunisia and Morocco are long-standing partners with whom the Principality maintains strong cooperation ties. These meetings allowed to discuss the environmental ambitions of each country and the identification of synergies between cooperation policies and climate policies.

🔲 The Prince’s Government, the Société d'Exploitation des Ports de Monaco and the Société Monégasque d'Assainissement joined forces to preserve the marine environment.

📍12th April 2024


The Prince's Government, in partnership with Société d'Exploitation des Ports de Monaco (SEPM), and the Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA), announced the installation of 42 waste collector baskets within the storm drain grates network directly connected to the sea, at theJarlan dock in Port Hercule. The initiative is intended to underpin the Prince's commitment to preserve the marine environment by reducing pollution related to waste, including cigarette butts.

These unique baskets, designed by Pollustock, have been strategically positioned to prevent plastic and hazardous waste contaminating marine ecosystems.

🔲 The Sovereign Prince reiterated his commitment for Marine Protected Areas and Polar Regions Preservation.

📍11th April 2024


H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the UN Ocean Decade Conference, held in Barcelona from the 10th to the 12th April 2024 to gather world leaders, experts in science and environmental economics and international organizations dedicated to protecting oceans.

The Sovereign Prince expressed the urgency of taking action for marine biodiversity and sea ecosytems conservation. Within the same panel, the role of Marine Protected Areas are essential as well philanthropic funding instruments like The MedFund.

 The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation co-hosted a side event named "Long-term Engagement in the Polar Oceans: A Decade of International Action" to showcase the achievements of the Southern Ocean community and the Decade Collaborative Centre (DCC-SO), focused in Southern Ocean and Antarctica.
